TNT captured the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup championship with a 97-93 victory over Barangay Ginebra on Friday night. Mikey Williams led the way for the winning team with nine triples, including an impressive long-range shot that put TNT back in the lead with 1:15 remaining. Best Import awardee Rondae Hollis-Jefferson contributed 29 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists to secure the win for the challengers. TNT had to come back from several double-digit deficits to finally take control of the game in the third quarter, and they held on until the final buzzer. Williams was named Finals Most Valuable Player with an average of 22 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. The victory ended Barangay Ginebra’s two-year stranglehold of the Governors’ Cup. Coach Jojo Lastimosa praised his team’s performance, saying that they had beaten a strong team led by Tim Cone and Justin Brownlee. Despite the loss, Cone acknowledged TNT's well-deserved victory and stated that his team still had room to grow.
